Law firm receives global recognition

Callenders & Company was this month was named the Bahamas’ leading corporate law firm by international judges as part of a worldwide search for excellence.

The honour was bestowed on Callenders & Company by Corp INT’L, a network of leading advisers and financiers. In addition to providing support, networking and educational information, Corp INT’L publishes a legal and financial services newsletter received by more than 280,000 professionals worldwide.

Corp INT’L said the awards commemorate those who have been active over the past 12 months, and who have shown excellence not only in expertise but in service. Callenders & Co was selected after a year-long judging process.

“For all our awards, we have undertaken detailed research in all categories through our editorial and research teams, and following that research we create a shortlist of firms that are experts in their chosen specialisms,” said a statement issued by Corp INT’L.

“The firms that are shortlisted have been researched by our own independent team looking at service range, business type, geographical location, how the business operates and the expertise each team can offer to companies that either trade or may want to trade in their chosen jurisdiction.”

Shortlisted firms were reviewed by an independent awards panel that included a senior partner of a global law firm, senior partner of an international accountancy practice, president of a global legal network, chief executive of a multi-international business, in-house lawyer for a large regional business and managing editor of Corporate International Magazine.

“It is a great honour to be named the country’s leading corporate firm by an organisation of the strength and reputation of Corp INT’L,” said Colin Callender, QC, managing partner and great grandson of the firm’s founder, W.E.S. Callender.

“What makes it particularly rewarding is that Callenders & Co has apparently quietly earned this spot with a combination of our historic standing, carrying on a family legacy through four generations, continuing the feel of a family firm, while benefitting from the energy, dedication and intelligence of new partners and associates.”

In 2011, Callenders & Co. partner Chad D. Roberts was selected by the Global Law Experts(GLE) as the recommended corporate law attorney in the Bahamas. And, most recently, Callenders senior associate, Llewellyn Boyer-Cartwright, was named a finalist by the Bahamas Financial Services Board in its annual excellence awards judging.

Mr Boyer-Cartwright, a former commercial pilot and now senior lawyer, has been calling for an international aircraft registry in the Bahamas. That call has received a positive government response.
