New attraction targeting 70% 'come ashore' visitors

With 70 per cent of Grand Bahama’s more-than 600,000 cruise arrivals coming ashore, the Grand Bahama Port Authority (GBPA) is hoping the opening of Senor Frog’s at Freeport Harbour will further increase the activities menu.

“This occasion has long been in the making and was birthed through consistent efforts on the part of our Business Development and Licensing departments,” said GBPA president, Ian Rolle, during the opening ceremonies.

The GBPA, in conjunction with Hutchison Whampoa, said it has shown its commitment to tourism sector development through expansions at the harbour and other ports of entry. It added that this had helped to attract Senor Frog’s, which is widely viewed as a fixture among popular beaches and cruise ports in 15 destinations in Mexico, the US and the Caribbean.

“Most definitely we recognise the confidence and trust that you have placed in our economy. Expansion is never done haphazardly or without forethought.

“So, we are indeed grateful that Senor Frog’s has chosen us, Freeport, as the location for its latest opening,” Mr Rolle added.

“Such expansion translates into not only an improved visitor experience but substantial economic injection in the form of employment for an additional 42 residents of
our island, and support of subsidiary suppliers.”

Earlier this year, the GBPA partnered with the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association, Freeport Harbour Company and the Ministry of Tourism to host a ‘Tourism Opportunity, Awareness and Training Seminar’.

“With the opening of Senor Frog’s and other tourism-related entities, this means we are well on our way in creating unique experiences, coupled with superior customer service for the thousands who annually visit our shores,” Mr Rolle said.
