THE Nassau Agility and Obedience Club is gearing up for its agility training seminar, scheduled for tomorrow and Sunday the Village Road Training Centre.
The club is very excited to have Annette Alfonso as the special guest instructor for the weekend.
The seminar is sponsored by Purina (Bahamas Wholesale Agencies), who have been supporting the clubs training seminars and obedience trials for the past several years.
Lynn Gape, NAODC vice-president, said: “The cClub will be offering three separate seminars over the weekend.
“On Saturday morning at 9am, the first class will be an introduction to the sport of agility and we encourage dog owners who are interested in learning about agility to attend. We are very fortunate to be able to offer classes with such a talented and skilled instructor as Annette Alfonso.”
Annette started competing in agility and obedience in Puerto Rico in 1996 and eventually turned her passion for training into a profession. She is dedicated to broadening her own education by attending seminars with well-known and respected trainers.
She moved to Miami, Florida 10 years ago and has since competed with her dogs at the national level at various agility venues, earning many honours and titles, including the AKC Companion Dog Excellent title, Master Agility Champion (three times), Flyball Dog Champion, USDAA Agility Dog Champion (twice) and Tournament Master-Silver.
She also has qualified and competed with two dogs at the AKC Agility Nationals in 2005-2007, and with three dogs at the USDAA Nationals in 2006-2010.
Most recently, Annette and her dogs Legend and Dealer competed for Team Puerto Rico at the World Agility Championships in England in May 2011 and Legend competed at the IFCS Worlds in Texas in May 2012.
Her canine team includes six incredibly talented dogs who have not only performed and competed all around the US, but also featured in many advertising campaigns (for example Ralph Lauren and JC Penney), appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The David Letterman Show, NBC’s Today Show and starred in the Spanish Soap Opera Perro Amor and the movie Marley and Me.
