A DEAF man was remanded to prison yesterday after being charged with the shooting and attempted armed robbery of a 14-year-old girl.

With the assistance of an interpreter, 22-year-old Raynado Johnson was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Roger Gomez on one charge of attempted murder and one charge of attempted armed robbery.

It is claimed that Johnson, of Sir Lynden Pindling Estates, attempted to rob and cause the death of Ashley Storr on December 2 while armed with a handgun.

The accused was not required to enter a plea to the charges due to their nature and was told that his case would be fast-tracked to the Supreme Court for trial.

A Voluntary Bill of Indictment will be presented on March 7, 2013.

Johnson was remanded to prison until completion of his trial.
