POLICE are seeking the public's assistance in identifying a man who was shot to death early Saturday morning.
They received a call that gunshots were heard in the Baillou Hill Road area around 6.30am.
When they arrived on the scene they discovered a man in a striped Polo Shirt and blue jeans lying on the street with a gunshot wound in the chest.
EMS personnel arrived and pronounced the victim dead.
At present police are uncertain of the circumstances surrounding this murder and are appealing to members of public who may have any information to contact police at 911 or 919, the Central Detective Unit at 502-9991 or crime stoppers anonymously at 328-TIPS.
This latest killing takes the murder count to 108 for the year.
Meanwhile police are still investigating the murder of 26-year old Stephen Williams.
Williams was shot to death early Thursday morning in the area of Palmetto Avenue.
According to Paul Rolle, Officer in Charge of the Central Detective Unit, the victim was walking in the area of Crooked Island Street when he was approached by two men who robbed him of cash and other personal items.
After robbing the man one of the suspects show him multiple times before fleeing the area in an unknown direction.
The victim managed to stumble on to East Street where he collapsed and died.
Investigations are continuing in both of these matters.
