FNM leader meets Cuban ambassador

FREE National Movement leader Dr Hubert Minnis met with the new Cuban Ambassador to the Bahamas, Ernesto Soberón Guzman, during a courtesy visit in the Minority Room at the House of Parliament.

Also present were FNM MP and shadow education minister Hubert Chipman, Dr Minnis’ personal advisor Carl Bethel, and Yoslaidy Clemente Lopez, third secretary at the Cuban Embassy.

The group discussed a wide range of issues, including: educational exchange opportunities, particularly in the field of medicine; further development of bi-lateral trade between the two countries; technical assistance in the area of agriculture; and exchange programmes for emerging political youth leaders.

The ambassador said his goal is to further strengthen relations between Cuba and the Bahamas.

“I seek to bridge relations between the Bahamas and Cuba and to facilitate ease of business between our two countries,” the ambassador said.

Extending a warm welcome to the Bahamas on behalf of the FNM, Dr Minnis reaffirmed the FNM’s commitment to work with the Cuban government in this effort.
