THE YODEPHY Dance and Modelling Academy blew away the crowd at the Rainforest Theatre during its Christmas Celebration event.
From a performance by local artist Julien Thompson, who sang his hit song “Caribbean Slide,” to the Yodephy dancers delivering their best moves, the audience was entertained.
Under the direction of Deborah Geear-Bethell and Phyllis Albury-Garraway, who have directed the show for the past 22 years, the show brought modelling, ballet, pointe, jazz, hip hop, tap and gymnastics to the stage. Instructors Dwain Lamb, Lorrinda Maura, Gail Moncur, Lavette Saunders were on hand, along with the newest additions to the hip hop and all that jazz team, Mr Anwar and Mr Chocolate.
“It was fantastic and we blew them away. We have two new instructors and they are all about this new hip hop thing that the kids are into these days and the audience was totally thrilled. The dancers made the splits look like easy walking. They did turns on their head and they did a medley of songs that turned into different diversions from old Hollywood to modern times, with a little Bahamian touch to it,” said Ms Garraway.
She said her favourite show of the evening would have to be that of the tiny tots.
“At that age, they had confidence to go on stage and do their thing. They did not have to wine up their bodies, they did something that was very elegant and age appropriate,” said Ms Garraway.
She said Yodephy is planning new projects for the new year for its fans to look forward to.
