POLICE yesterday said they were questioning three men in connection with a spree of armed robberies where persons were being “bumped” from behind in their vehicles and then robbed. However, The Tribune understands that a fourth man was taken into custody.

While they did not give the specifics of the arrests, police sources confirmed that authorities closed in on the suspects after a tracker in a stolen laptop was able to show an I P address of where the device was being used.

The laptop was inside a Nissan Tienna that the men stole last week, according to police sources.

Acting on that information, police responded to a residence at Nassau Village where they arrested two men. The pair were in possession of the laptop and several cell phones. One of the men later led police to a residence in Red Land Acres of another man who was also taken into custody.

The men, police sources said, all admitted to the armed robberies. They later told authorities how to locate a fourth man who was found with the Nissan Tienna which was recently licensed in his mother’s name.

Police also discovered a bushy area, on the direction of the men, where three more vehicles and a small motorcycle were found.

Investigators have yet to discover the handgun used in the robberies.

On Sunday, the CDU chief warned motorists to be on the lookout for the men who were targeting women motorists. They reported to police that the men were usually driving a gold coloured Honda CRV or Ford Explorer SUV.

Superintendent Rolle told The Tribune that the majority of their complaints had come from women who were drivers of late model Nissan Maximas and Hondas.

In a police press statement, they said the arrests were “the result of excellent text book policing.”

Meanwhile, the occurrence of armed robberies continues to be a problem for authorities who have admitted that they are struggling to control them.
