A FORMER employee of the Nassau Airport Development Company was taken into police custody Saturday, accused of causing $35,000 worth of damage to the nation’s airport.

Police allege that the 26-year-old former baggage handler caused “major” damage to a conveyor belt, a flight monitor and a glass door at the Lynden Pindling International Airport’s arrival centre.

Police expect to bring charges against the man early this week.

In another matter, police arrested one man for assaulting a police officer and two more for armed robbery during an operation that cited 42 drivers for various traffic offences.

Between 8pm Friday and 4am Saturday, Central Division officers conducted an operation in keeping with the police commissioner’s plan to “enforce the rules of the road.”

The objectives of the operation were to identify and cite all traffic violators and identify and arrest anyone in violation of the law.

As a result, 42 drivers were cited for various traffic violations, two were arrested on outstanding warrants, two for drugs, two for armed robbery, and one for assaulting a police officer and for disorderly behaviour.

Also Saturday night, just before 9pm, Mobile Division officers discovered a shotgun.

Acting on information, the officers went to Ashley Street, Ridgeland Park West, where they found the weapon.

No arrests were made in connection with the incident, but active police investigations continue.
