FOR the past 21 years, the Antique Auto Club of the Bahamas has been helping several less fortunate children enjoy the Christmas holiday.

Each year, the club selects around 80 children from two primary schools (40 from each school) and gives them a gift and a bag of groceries for their families.

“It is a very heartwarming experience that probably makes us feel better than the children,” said Don Aranha, founding president and now a director.

“The children often write us thank you letters, sometimes saying our gift was the only one they received for Christmas”.

Formed as a hobby club in 1987 by six men interested in vintage automobiles, the Antique Auto Club of the Bahamas soon expanded its purpose and enjoys giving back to the community, especially children in need.

This includes donating the full proceeds of the club’s annual Antique Auto Show and Steak-Out (held in March) to a charity or organisation that benefits children.

Now in its 26th year, the club has a membership approaching 60 men and women.
