A MAN died on Christmas night when he was hit by a car as he tried to cross the street while another man was shot in his leg during an argument on Christmas morning.
According to police reports, a man – who has not yet been identified – was fatally struck by a car shortly before midnight on Tuesday.
He was attempting to cross Zion Boulevard when “for unknown reasons” he stepped into the path of an east-bound 2000 GMC Yukon truck.
A 29-year-old driver was arrested at the scene and is currently assisting officers with their
investigations into the matter.
The shooting took place at West and Brougham Streets shortly before 10:30am, Tuesday.
The victim had got into an argument with two other men and was shot in his left thigh by one of the men.
The two men then fled on foot and the victim was taken to hospital by EMS personnel where he is detained in stable condition.
Police say “moments later” a 31-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in custody and assisting police with investigations.
In another matter, one person was arrested on an outstanding warrant and another was arrested for conspiracy to possess drugs during a police operation.
The operation, which was conducted by Central Division officers between 8pm Saturday and 4am Sunday, also saw 23 drivers cited for various traffic violations.
Another operation called “Blitz” conducted between 5pm and 11:30pm Sunday and led by Assistant Commissioner Steven Seymour saw five persons arrested on outstanding warrants, two for armed robbery, and two for drug possession.
“A large number of drivers” were also cited during the operation.
