The debacle of the National Insurance Board

EDITOR, The Tribune.

National Insurance was probably the best run and managed of the Government Corporations.

Thanks to the diligence of their senior management, contributions were efficiently collected.

At the highest level qualified, intelligent people were in place.

Due to good management, National Insurance became and is the cash cow of the Bahamas.

Within a few months of the PLP reign, inefficiency, cronyism and dubious practices are being put in place. The smart people at the top are being dispensed with. This is not an opinion but a fact.

Regardless of your political affiliations this is a travesty of justice as this really is the people’s money both PLP and FNM supporters hard earned funds.

Why did the PLP decide to tamper with its one well run corporation? What is the motivation?

I think most of us of all persuasions know the answer to that.

When Hubert Ingraham was in power people said he was dictatorial, over decisive, bossy, etc.

Well guess what you now have in place a leader who is the absolute opposite.

Does anyone think Hubert Ingraham would have allowed the politicians at NI to ride roughshod like this totally ignoring the Prime Minister? Not in anyone’s lifetime.

In any business – and a government is in the final analysis a business – tough decisions need to be taken and Mr Christie whether he likes it or not needs to sort out the shenanigans at NI quickly and decisively.

What chance of that?
