THE Free National Movement kicks off its Family Island campaign tour at San Salvador today.
Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham and Michael Pintard, the FNM candidate for Cat Island, San Salvador and Rum Cay, will travel to the island this morning and are expected to speak at a party rally tonight.
FNM election campaign manager Kay Forbes-Smith said the trip and the campaign will bring the party face-to-face with constituents and highlighting what the FNM has accomplished during its term in office.
She said: "We are going back to the people, talking to the people about the FNM accomplishments and talk about the things we have done generally in the Bahamas - all the things we have done has been for the betterment of the people and the future of the Bahamas, that's going to be our message moving forward as we go on the rally circuit throughout the country."
No stranger to politics, Mrs Forbes-Smith said Mr Pintard has a community orientated approach and has already begun his work throughout the three islands.
"The focus of his campaign really is about what are the needs of the people in those areas, what they feel has not happened for them and where they see the future of their constituency going," she said.
According to Mrs Forbes-Smith, Mr Pintard has taken up residency in Cat Island in preparation for the coming campaign, so he can be among the people.
While the current MP Philip Brave Davis is considered to be in a very strong position in the constituency, she said the situation is actually more complex.
"Just because you have had consistent representation by individuals or any individual for long period of time, that does not necessarily mean that constituents are always satisfied with that representation," said Mrs Forbes-Smith.
"What Mr Pintard is finding out as he does his door to door campaign is there are lots of needs in the community."
