A MAN was arraigned in Magistrate's Court yesterday in connection with the theft of nearly $4,000 from a service station where he worked.
Delano Marc, 20, of Augusta Street, appeared before Magistrate Guilimina Archer in Court 10 to face five charges of stealing by reason of employment and another five charges of falsification of accounts.
It is alleged that the former cashier at Shell Sun Oil Service Ltd on the corner of Carmichael and Baillou Hill Roads, stole the money between December 28, 2011 and January 4, 2012.
He is accused of falsifying five Royal Bank of Canada deposit slips worth $6,813.71 with intent to defraud and stealing a portion of the funds allocated for deposit on those slips.
It total, it is alleged, the accused stole $3,933.60.
Marc, who appeared without a lawyer, denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty.
He was told he could choose whether to be tried in Magistrate's Court or Supreme Court on the charges of falsification of accounts.
He opted to be tried in the lower court.
The prosecution did not object to bail and the Magistrate released Marc a bond of $10,000 with one surety.
He returns to court for trial on July 25. Five witnesses are expected to give evidence.
