FREEPORT – One of the six wanted men was captured trying to flee the country, along with several illegal immigrants early Wednesday morning during an alleged boat smuggling operation.
The Police Marine Support Unit apprehended Stanley Marseille, 20, and 12 other immigrants of various nationalities who were onboard a 24ft vessel in the Dover Sound area.
Asst Supt Loretta Mackey reported that officers were on routine marine patrol, approximately four miles west of Dover Sound when they observed a 24ft “Grady White” vessel with several persons onboard.
When officers intercepted the vessel, three persons jumped overboard – the captain and a male passenger was able to escape, however a third male passenger was caught.
Ms Mackey said police also apprehended 12 persons who were on onboard the vessel.
Marseille, who is wanted for causing grievous harm, was among the group taken into police custody.
The immigrants – one woman and 11 men – were of Jamaican and Macedonian nationality and were handed over to the Bahamas Immigration Department for further investigation.
