JULY 1, 2012 marked the 10th anniversary of the groundbreaking ceremony for the Cancer Centre Bahamas.

Under the management of Professor Arthur T Porter, the centre has grown in cope. It now provides a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic options for cancer patients and is the only American College Of Radiation Oncology (ACRO) accredited cancer centre in the hemisphere.

Last week, Dr Porter received notification that he had been chosen to receive the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in recognition of his contributions and achievements.

“I’m delighted by this recognition of my contributions and will continue to enhance the delivery of healthcare,” said Dr Porter.

Over the past year, the Cancer Centre expanded into the Caribbean, forging a management relationship in Trinidad, beginning construction of a new centre in Antigua and establishing an outreach clinic in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

“We are delighted at Dr Porter’s recognition.

“It is well deserved and makes us all proud,” said Dr Conville Brown, president of the Medical Pavilion, where the centre is located.
