A FEMALE Haitian migrant drowned during an illegal landing attempt early yesterday morning.
Three men were also taken to hospital for excessive dehydration, according to officials, who said a 45ft wooden sloop was discovered near Hanna Road in the area south of Joe Farrington Road.
Defence Force officers apprehended 75 migrants sometime after 7am. They had been travelling for eight days from the city of Jean Rabel.
According to reports, 50 migrants were apprehended on the shore, 15 in the South Beach Pool area, and another 10 on land. There were 50 men, 18 women, three boys, and four girls.
The migrants will remain at the Bahamas Detention Centre until they have been processed for repatriation to Haiti.

While it is a sad state of affairs when a life is lost, regardless of the situation, still how can this reporter classify the woman as being one of 50 "migrants?"
