The Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC)has opened its third retail store in Grand Bahama, after investing $250,000 to upgrade a 1,900 square foot space at Seahorse Plaza in Lucaya.
The store features original art, large flat-screen televisions, an assortment of the latest smart phones, Samsung tablets and phone accessories.
“This represents a turning point for our customers in this area,” said BTC’s vice-president of Channels & Marketing, Gershan Major.
“We recognise the economic challenges that Grand Bahama has had to face in the recent past, and our Seahorse Plaza opening reinforces our commitment and support to the people on the island through commerce and community.”
The first BTC store for Grand Bahama opened in February at Pioneers Way, with the second following at High Rock.
“This store took us 16 weeks to build out with more than 50 workers” said BTC’s retail lead, Bob Gill, of the Seahorse Plaza site.
“That’s because of the extent of the work. But we are pretty confident that customers will see that it was well worth the wait. For the first time they can touch and feel the products, and do things like go on Facebook, Twitter and check their e-mail. For our team, it is not just about a sale; we are in the business of finding solutions.”
Seahorse Plaza is the eighth retail store opened by BTC since last December. It is the latest in a series of rebuilds and transformations from administrative space to hands-on active centres, packed with fixed line and wireless options and experiences.
BTC has invested $2 million rolling out new stores, and expects that figure to reach $8 million by the time it completes all 35 stores nationwide.
