A MAN found dead in Andros and another in Nassau were the fourth and fifth bodies discovered within the space of three days.

The Andros man, who had been reported missing, was found in the water at Cargill Creek at around 1pm last week Wednesday.

Police are still investigating and have yet to release the identity of the victim.

Then, just after 10:30am on Friday, police in Nassau were called to the shoreline on Marshall Road, where the body of a black man had been discovered. Police say they are uncertain about the circumstances, but are investigating.

Earlier that morning, the body of another man was found floating in the sea near the Sea Breeze Canal in Nassau.

This body, and two others found on Thursday, are believed to have been part of a group of Haitians who were taken into custody during the Independence holiday.

More than 70 Haitian immigrants were picked up in southwestern New Providence after their vessel ran aground earlier in the week.

The body of a female immigrant was found near the sloop.

The remaining immigrants are being detained at the Carmichael Road Detention Centre.

The number of detainees rose to 132 after officials took 62 Haitians into custody on Wednesday.

Officers on routine patrol found the immigrants after they spotted a Haitian sloop anchored just off Cistern Cay, Exuma, and conducted a search.
