CABLE Bahamas executives yesterday announced that an agreement was reached to share rights permitting them to broadcast the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Those rights had been exclusively acquired recently by the Broadcasting Corporation of the Bahamas, prohibiting any other entity in this territory to televise or broadcast on radio the London Games.
The Olympics began yesterday and will continue through to August 12.
Keith Wisdom, Cable Bahamas’ director of Public Affairs, said all parties were pleased
that the Games could now be viewed through several angles in the Bahamas.
“The games,” he said, “are now on Cable and we are pleased to say that an agreement has been signed so that Bahamians can look forward to viewing the games from all possible angles.
“We do want to thank the BCB for working with us and putting the offer on the table as
it bodes well for all parties.”
Last week, Cable Bahamas said they were working feverishly to have the games broadcast on basic channels amid widespread uncertainty over the quality of coverage.
BCB acquired the rights to air the Games from International Media Content Ltd. (IMC),
the parent company of Sports Max, based in Kingston, Jamaica. Sports Max is also the sole legal entity authorised to grant licenses to BCB in this territory for live, deferred and
delayed television and radio transmission with commentary.
ZNS’ General Manager Edwin Lightbourn, on Wednesday would only tell The Tribune that the Corporation intended to provide viewers with extensive coverage of the event. He added that the corporation had already promised advertisers exclusive coverage and they had planned to do just that.

Why anyone would advertise on ZNS is beyond me. If I paid for an ad and got what ZNS usually broadcasts I'd be down the next day demanding a full refund. ZNS truly is the most amatuerish operation in our government, really time to look at getting rid of it for good. We do not need the waste of maney ZNS is, they have been in operation for over 30 yeasr and have learned absolutely nothing about broadcasting, sound is muffled so bad you can't hear, picture contrast is horrible. It's like they have no idea how to set their picture and sound quality after 30 years. ZNS is a drain on our economy and it is an embarrassment to our country.
