• Branville McCartney - His DNA party made history this election by scoring more than 13,000 votes, and while the charismatic leader failed to retain his Bamboo Town seat, he still owns the hearts of many Bahamian women who said they are impressed by his confidence and dazzling smile. “Bran still has it, make no mistake, that man is fine,” said Sanika.

DNA Leader Branville McCartney joined other political leaders in extending his condolences to the families of the 11 Haitians who drowned in waters off Abaco on Sunday night.

Although well known throughout the country for his tough stance on illegal immigration, Mr McCartney said his heart still goes out to the families of these persons who suffered such a tragedy.

"No person in their right mind ought to not care. They ought to be very sympathetic to those persons. I understand children and women in particular were found. My heart goes out to them.

"I am tough on illegal immigrants, and I am tough on crime, but when you have situations like this, that is being human, and my heart goes out to those persons who suffered that tragedy."

Mr McCartney said when he was the minister with responsibility for immigration under the previous FNM government, he met with a number of illegal migrants who told him of their plight and the risks they undertook to come to the Bahamas.

"I sat down and I spoke to many persons. I understood their plight and I sympathised with their plight. But we also have to be very deliberate with our position on illegals.

"But with regards to what happened that was very, very sad. My sympathies go out to them and their families," he said.
