WELL known for his exploits on the baseball diamond, one of the Bahamas' collegiate superstars reached a new milestone off the playing field.
Etienne Farquharson III graduated last month Summa Cum Laude with his Bachelor's Degree from North Carolina Central University.
Farquharson, home from university prior to pursuing his Masters Degree this fall, has excelled academically at each stop along his baseball journey.
After graduating from St Augustine's College in 2007, Farquharson attended Pensacola Junior College where he was a member of the Panhandle Conference Championship team that was ranked as high as number one in the nation. He was also named Academic All-American.
In his first season with the NCCU Eagles, he played in 34 games with 20 starts at catcher. He finished the season second on the roster with a .308 batting average.
In the final weekend series of the season, he put up jaw-dropping numbers against Maryland Eastern Shore when he went 10-for-14 (.714) with seven runs scored, two doubles, and four RBIs.
The following season, he continued his exceptional performance in the classroom and was nominated as a CoSida Academic All-American.
He moved to second base where he started 16 of his 28 games and finished the season seventh on the team with a .282 batting average and had another late season flurry to raise his average over the final five games, where he went 8-for-17 (.471) with two doubles, a triple and 4 RBIs with a slugging percentage of .706.
He ended the season with 29 hits, 12 runs scored, 11 RBIs on-base percentage of .351 and his slugging percentage was .350.
Farquharson will be a part of a talented young group of collegiate players who are expected to headline the Bahamas Baseball Federation's Andre Rodgers national tournament this summer.
