THE government should not reclaim majority ownership of BTC, according to the majority of voters in The Tribune's online poll.
Against the move were 83.23 per cent, with just 16.77 per cent being for government ownership.
And there were harsh words for the government in the comments section.
"No way no how!" said 'B_I_D'. "Even the threat of trying to renegotiate the contract, as a result of a government change, is making us the laughing stock of the international business community.
"If they renege and forcefully change that contract, you can wipe out any external investments from entering this country . . . THEN we'll see what happens with unemployment, economy and crime."
'tiredofhypocrisy' agreed: "The government should not be involved in the utilities business! Period! I clearly understand the need in a small country to ensure that you maintain a strong Bahamian workforce, but things like that can be worked into any contract or labour law."
A brand new Tribune Poll picks up from Monday's Insight article on the freedom of the press and asks: Should government have a say in how the media approaches news? Vote now at: http://bit.ly/KYBggN

I was strongly against the sale of BTC but whats done is done. Nobody sells a product to purchase it back, so if the government sees it necessary to still be in the telephone service simply re-enter as a competitor but only target a specific service (land or cellphone) by using just a percentage of the profit from the sale. Provide competitive prices to a customer population that would not be a strain to the governments treasury. When that more-or-less start up company gets on the way and profit if obtain, gradually expand and venture into other services where affordable and profitable.

if thry do that they will be compeying wih themself. the government still own 49% of the company. which means they get 49% of all earnings. They sold the majority or controlling shate 51% to CWC.

The Tribune poll also said the FNM was going to win....ummm....what happened????

it was so funny that on election day, the poll reversed and the PLP had the majority. Should we rely on this Tribune poll to be anything substantial that the Government should look at as being a consensus? I personally believe that they should not.

The cost, the international repercussions, and the time far out way any benefit to the Bahamian people. Leave BTC alone! In this country, our last concern should be BTC. Unemployment is through the roof especially for young people. The cost of living is increasing while salaries for the most part remain the same. Crime is out of control and it seems no one can get a hold on it. We have the highest incidence of Breast Cancer in the world and we have NO idea how to combat this. This only the tip of iceberg of our problems...and we want to discuss selling BTC. Get real Bahamas! We're looking at a scrape on the surface when we've got cancerous cells all over the body of the Bahamas. Focus on the REAL problems...the scrapes will heal themselves.

Someone needs to sit Perry down and explain to him in kindergarten terms exactly what a win with less than half the voters means in terms of a mandate....
The only mandate the PLP have with 48% of the electorate is to DO BETTER THIS TIME!!!
Leave BTC alone, we the majority of the Bahamas say so.....
And please remember, the majority of the Bahamas did not want a PLP government. Act accordingly Mr. Prime Minister...

Wheres the majority. The percentage that didn't vote PLP still did not keep the PLP out. You forgot one important rule - united we stand, divided YOU fall. Stop looking for friends bout the majority. Now you want buddy buddy with the DNA to make your majority, my my my.
