Politician's niece's kidnap claim being investigated

THE TEENAGE niece of a prominent politician was allegedly kidnapped and sexually assaulted over the weekend, The Tribune has learned.

According to police sources, the 19-year-old girl reported that she was taken at knife-point from her home while her family slept early Friday morning.

She alleged that an unknown man entered the family home that she shares with her parents and siblings around 2am while they slept.

The intruder went upstairs into the sleeping girl's room, where he told her to be quiet or he would "kill everyone in the house".

After the victim pleaded with him for a few minutes to allow her to get her medication, the man reportedly followed her into the kitchen where she said she hid a butcher's knife under her nightgown.

The intruder reportedly then took the girl out of the house into a vehicle and drove her to a bushy area nearby where he attempted to rape her.

The teenager reportedly fought back and stabbed her attacker in the chest with the knife before escaping.

She was picked up by a passerby on a nearby road a short time later and taken to a police station.

Police have refused to comment on the situation due to its nature and the girl's close relation to a politician.

However, the source said police are actively pursuing the alleged attacker.

That alleged kidnapping was the second over the weekend, after a 51-year-old man was also allegedly abducted, tied up and robbed of his car, then dumped in South Beach.

He was discovered by a passerby the next day and taken to hospital where he remains in stable condition.

Police investigations are continuing.

Another home invasion and possibly worse allegedly happened on Eastern Road Sunday evening/Monday morning...police being VERY hush hush...and that individual was no 'politician'. It would be nice to know that crimes and assaults in your neighbourhood are being reported, and not hidden by the police.

Do we really want the media to start identifying alleged rape victims? A daughter is a daughter, regardless who her parents happen to be and the public need not be told, except if the police press release deems it necessary warn residents in a certain area, and without identifying the family.

I don't think rape victims need to be identified, and in such cases where there are home invasions, you don't need to name names...but at least get the word out that unfavourable activities are happening in your neighbourhood. Maybe just leave it as a home invasion and nothing else, that's all that may need to be said. As a 'neighbour' (I am not anywhere near them in this case), if I was to NOT tell someone that hey...someone broke into my house, threatened and abused my family, but let's keep it hush hush...then it happens again next door. Sorry, I couldn't live with myself...these little cover ups hide the bigger story of crime in this country...but maybe the new CRIME fighting government, doesn't want the bad press that surrounds such events...it's happening...BIG TIME...but we only hear about the murders. Can't get away with NOT divulging a murder stat...but let's not tell anyone else about what other badness is happening...pretty sad that our culture is to cover these things up and sweep them under the rug...don't even get me started with the lack of reporting on tourist assaults...heck...that would make the global media and be bad for image...so we'll stiffle that...and the 'not so bad' local crime stuff that doesn't kill anybody...let's keep giving people that warm fuzzy feeling...sleep well tonight knowing that there are people out there that want to beat the crap out of you, potentially kill you, and rape your wives and daughters...just sayin'.

I agree. This story doesn't add up. So all this happened in the house and nobody else saw or heard anything? How did the intruder gain entry? Where is her room in relation to the others? How did the intruder know exactly which room to enter? Anyway lets pray for this country to have some peace.

to the above comment, the story doesn't add up because it's just a "reported" story that is not supported by any "real evidence." Most of what is printed here is inaccurate, but quite frankly, all of the specifics of such a crime should NEVER be released to the public during an investigation, as it will most likely hurt the polices' efforts. But I agree that the communities should be informed of home invasions, as to take the necessary steps to secure our homes. But in this case, please don't believe everything that you read. And I leave it at that.
