THE new head of Urban Renewal in Grand Bahama has defended her suitability for the post after opponents claimed the former PLP organiser has no relevant qualifications and last worked as a school caterer.
Michelle Reckley, former Assistant Secretary General for the PLP in Grand Bahama, told The Tribune she was qualified because she has "lived" the problems that Urban Renewal was set up to address.
The FNM claims the appointment is purely political, saying they believe Mrs Reckley does not has the appropriate professional background or expertise to manage several Urban Renewal centres and a staff that includes police officers and social workers.
Mrs Reckley said: "What makes me qualified is that I come from urban. I have lived it and who else can appreciate Urban Renewal more than someone who has lived it?"
She is still listed as the party's Assistant Secretary General on the PLP's official website, but sources in Grand Bahama said she stepped down from the post shortly after the election.
After the election, in which Mrs Reckley worked as a PLP campaign manager, she said: "The residents of Grand Bahama have sent a clear message that we were tired of the miserable life - we were not safe in our homes and on the streets, and could hardly eat; people sleeping in cars and on beach."

Tribune please correct: "...Mrs Reckley does not has the appropriate..." to "...Mrs Reckley does not have the appropriate...
Whether she was politically appointed or not won't matter. What does matter is that she is a former Assistant Secretary General for the PLP and a worked as PLP campaign manager during the elections. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and floats like a duck...it's a usually a duck. It may be true that she was chosen because of what she has to offer, but no one will believe that!

Comrades lest this be considered an act of blasphemous flippancy compared to all the red shirts appointed to government positions during their 15 years in power?

She is highly qualified for the position - clearly she knows every PLP household from non-PLP household and would be very effective in cutting out all non-PLPs.
By her remarks it is obvious that she has no qualifications for the position - if her biggest push is that she lives within the "urban" communities then illegal immigrants should work at immigration because they know what it is like to be illegal; criminals should be hired on the police force because they know what it is like to live a life of crime and everyone who visits the hospital frequently automatically qualify to work there.
I am truly grateful that my family's well-being does not fall under the purview of Ms. Reckley. Dog eat ya lunch if you didn't vote PLP.
