EDITOR, The Tribune.
AS A WOMAN, I write to express my outrage that the Police Force did not, until ASKED TODAY by a media person, reveal to the public official information regarding the series of at-gunpoint violent rapes occurring throughout eastern and western New Providence over the past several weeks. I know of at least 10 cases, and then other cases of attempted rapes where the woman was able to get away from her attacker. It is unconscionable that such critical information was being withheld from the public. We deserve to know when our well being is at increased risk. Give us the opportunity to be aware of the dangers around us.
Have the perpetrators been caught? If not, why not? What is the Force doing about these serious incidents? The Police Force provides daily/regular reports to the media on murders, shootings and stabbings, but the murder of a woman's soul and psyche, and the grievous harm to her body via violent rape doesn't warrant reporting by the Force? I take this as a personal affront to all women in The Bahamas, particularly those of New Providence, that violent, serial sex crimes against women do not rise to the level of public importance on the part of the PR division of the Force. It is an enduring reminder of how we view women in our society, and the offences carried out against them.

At CC...yeap...police and press being hushed to make it look good for the reigning party. Heck...now they are making 'murdered' bodies magically disappear!! That way I guess it doesn't count toward the record... ;-)
