THE Bahamas and Austria are seeking to broaden and deepen the friendly relations between both countries despite differences and historical experiences.
Sir Arthur Foulkes, Governor General made the observation during the presentation of Letters of Credence by Dr Hans Peter Manz, accrediting him Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to the Commonwealth of the Bahamas.
The ceremony was held Thursday, March 22, in the Drawing Room at Government House.
Sir Arthur highlighted the similarities between the Bahamas and Austria despite historical experiences and geographical locations.
"Our countries also share the blessings of scenic beauty - though quite different - and strategic location, which have fuelled economic prosperity and resilience even in the face of global economic depression. We are also equally conscious of the responsibility which these blessings demand of us within our borders and beyond as guardians of unique environmental assets," Sir Arthur said.
He also welcomed the ambassador's pledge to further broaden and deepen the friendly relations between both countries.
"Your country champions human rights and freedoms and the value of the individual, both child and adult. As you have quite rightly pointed out, respect for the rule of law and commitment to moral values, which sustain your country's foreign policy, are also shared by The Bahamas and are indispensable elements of our stable democracies."
In addition to bilateral technical assistance, Sir Arthur also noted that the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the Organisation of American States also offer opportunities for multilateral and regional technical assistance.
