WHILE there is still no official word on how a boarding door at the Lynden Pindling International Airport came to be opened without authorisation on Wednesday, preliminary reports indicate there was no security threat, The Tribune understands.
According to an informed source, the incident seems to have been nothing more than a "totally unintended" error by a passenger.
As a result, a number of arriving passengers ended up in the US departure lounge, rather than Bahamas customs and immigration.
The breach led to the grounding of all US flights for about an hour.
Airline employees managed to find the passengers and redirect them to the passageway leading to customs and immigration, but an investigation followed.
"Airport officials immediately deployed personnel to the scene to investigate the matter," Nassau Airport Development Company representative Shonalee Johnson said.
"During that time, all US-bound flights were placed on hold resulting in departure delays. Passengers were, however, still being checked in and processed as normal."
NAD issued no official update before press time last night.
