THREE local charities have benefited from the generosity of passengers and employees at the Lynden Pindling International Airport.
According to officials at the Nassau Airport Development Company, the AIDS Foundation of the Bahamas, Ranfurly Home for Children and Lupus Bahamas 242 all recently received donations from the airport community.
Proceeds from NAD's first Health Run/Walk held in April went to the AIDS Foundation. The Ranfurly Home for Children received donations from funds collected in the US terminal waterfall, and the third charity to receive support from the airport community was Lupus Bahamas 242.
"The health and well-being of our employees is important and each year we dedicate time to educate our staff. This year our activities concluded with the health walk and we are pleased to donate the funds to an organisation that has participated in the health fair every year," said Stewart Steeves, President & CEO at NAD. The funds will be used to sponsor afterschool care for students living with AIDS and HIV.
The Ranfurly Home for Children's donations, collected in the US terminal waterfall, were from passengers leaving the country who often make a wish and toss coins and casino chips into the waterfall.
Every three months, NAD collects the coins and donates them to a deserving charity. Home President, Alexandra Maillis-Lynch, is pleased that the boys and girls of Ranfurly are benefiting from the kindness of strangers.
On World Lupus Day, persons throughout NAD were encouraged to POP (Put on Purple) For Lupus and raise awareness for the debilitating illness.
Members of NAD's Finance Department donated proceeds from a Department fundraising exercise to the organisation.
