JBLN pitcher's delight

THE Junior Baseball League of Nassau had the fans entertained in the St Andrew's Field of Dreams playing field at St Andrew's School on Monday night.

In game one of the Reds versus the Rangers' 11-12 Major League championship series, it turned out to be a pitcher's delight as Nathan Moxey and BJ Murray went head-to-head on the mound.

Through the six innings of regulation, Moxey held the Rangers at bay on a no-hitter, while Murray threw a one-hitter against the Reds in a scoreless encounter.

In the top of the seventh, Murray mowed down the Reds 1-2-3 while Moxey pitched out of a bases loaded jam to send the game to the eighth inning.

Murray then struck out the side in the top of the eighth as the gamed moved to the bottom of the inning.

Lead-off batter Duante Stuart reached base on an error by the Reds second baseman and then stole second.

However, Moxey proceeded to get the next two batters, setting the stage for the dramatic ending.

With two-strike pitcher, Rangers' batter Cameron Fox lined a double down the right field line and Stuart scored the winning run in walk-off fashion.

Game two is scheduled for 7pm Wednesday.

Also in a 9-10 Minor League game on Monday, the Astros held off the Rockies 11-10. This game resumed with the Score 7-6 with the Rockies leading the Astros.

The Rockies built a 10-6 lead heading to the bottom of the fifth as the Astros failed to score in the third and fourth.

The Astros scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth to take an 11-10 lead into the sixth and won game one as the Rockies failed to score in the top of the sixth inning.

Game two was scheduled for Wednesday.

And, in less dramatic fashion, in a Junior League game, the Dodgers routed the Rays 13-5. Game two was also scheduled for Wednesday.
