A TWO-YEAR-OLD was rescued from drowning yesterday by a quick-thinking 11-year-old who pulled him from the waters at Junkanoo Beach.
Tyrese Samuels, deputy head boy at T.G. Glover, said he saw the little boy floating on his side while foaming at the mouth and thought that he might be drowning.
He said he and a girl pulled the little boy to the shore and noticed that he wasn’t breathing. He said a crowd then began to form around the little boy.
“I saw the little boy in the water and he was turned side-on and suds was coming out of his mouth. He was close to the shoreline,” said Tyrese. “We took him up and then a bigger boy took him up on the sand.”
Philip Davis Jr, son of the Deputy Prime Minister and a certified lifeguard, said when he saw the crowd he rushed over to see what was happening.
Mr Davis said when he realized what condition the little boy was in he began to perform routine lifesaving skills on the little boy until Emergency Medical Services Personnel could arrive.
“I was on the dock diving off and we saw a commotion going on,” he said.
“When we saw him he was breathing properly but he wasn’t coherent.
“We turned him on his side and he brought up the water.
“Whoever pulled him from the water was the real lifeguard, I only went over there and administered what needed to be done.”
Mr Davis said he underwent a similar ordeal when he was three years old and therefore understood the urgency of the situation.
