Shootings leave one dead, one in hospital

ANOTHER murder has brought the country’s total for the year to 60 as police investigate a late night shooting that happened yesterday.

Police are still uncertain about the circumstances surrounding the incident but it reportedly occurred shortly after 11pm at First Street off Robinson Road.

Police are appealing to members of the public who may have any information regarding this incident or any other crime to contact police by calling 919, 322-3333/4, 502-9991, 502-9910, or Crimestoppers on 328-TIPS.

Police are also investigating the circumstances surrounding a shooting that left a 19-year-old man in hospital.

The victim was walking along Woodes Alley shortly before 1am on Thursday when he heard gunshots and realised he was shot to the leg.

He was taken to hospital, where is detained in stable condition.

A 20-year-old Golden Gates man is being questioned by police in connection with a number of recent house-breakings.

According to police reports, around 10am on Wednesday, Southwestern Division officers arrested the man at Golden Gates after he was found in possession of suspected stolen items.

These items included a television, a Play Station 3 gaming console and clothing.

Police have also taken a 29-year-old man into custody after he was found in possession of a handgun and ammunition.

Acting on a tip, Special Intelligence Branch (SIB) officers went to Buttonwood Avenue in Pinewood Gardens around 4pm on Wednesday where they arrested the man and confiscated the items.
