FREEPORT - A police motorcyclist who was injured in a hit-and- run traffic accident on Tuesday is listed in stable condition in hospital.
The accident occurred around noon at Explorer’s Way and West Mall Drive, involving a white BMW that collided with the police officer, who was travelling south on the West Mall Drive.
According to Inspector Terecita Pinder, the male driver of the BMW was travelling north on West Mall Drive at the time and left the scene of the accident.
The injured officer was taken to the Rand Memorial Hospital, where he is being treated for his injuries.
The vehicle and motorcycle were damaged as a result of the accident.
Ms Pinder said the driver is in custody assisting police with their investigations into the accident.
“The Police are appealing to the general public to drive with care and attention and to adhere to the laws that govern the streets. Police are also sending a strong message to the general public that it is a criminal offence for persons involved in a traffic mishap to leave the scene of an accident,”
