Why are Christians and Pastors trying to stop gambling from becoming legal? We all know that it has gone on illegally and will continue to go on whether we like it or not! Wouldn’t it be better that it’s all out in the open for all to see and properly regularized? Wouldn’t it be better if the government can get their share of the piece of the pie…Legally? Not to mention the 3000 jobs! Can you imagine the burden lifted off the government from trying to find 3000 morally uplifting jobs where people could actually learn a trade and make a significant contribution to society?
Let’s take it a little further! Stealing, robbing, murder, rape, adultery, under-age sex, prostitution and homosexuality are all being committed every day, so why not just add those to the referendum too? Let’s make them all legal! Oh, but wait a minute, there's just one big difference! Gambling generates money. It creates jobs! Money! It generates taxes! Money! It generates donations and scholarships! Money, Money and more Money!
So there you have it. Turn a blind eye to an activity that will cause an increase in addiction, an increase in immorality, and an increase in crime, laziness and greed, and make it legal, all for the ove of the almighty dollar!
The same Jesus whom we claim to believe in as Christians warned us thousands of years ago to be on your guard against all kinds of greed; this temporary life does not consist in an abundance of possessions. Gambling not only causes addiction, but it creates an attitude of greed and laziness, and leads to corrupt and immoral activity! It makes a fool of the gambler while greedy men get rich!
People are beating up on Pastors and Christians saying why don’t they leave the gambling issue alone and asking why are they not screaming and shouting and holding press conferences about child abuse and rape and murder….but they have! And the major difference is that with those things at least we have the law on our side! Try making any one of these things legal and you will see the same aggressive attempt to stop them from being legal by the Christian community!
Pastors and Christians are not perfect people. We are sinners who have made a commitment to follow Christ. Believers are sinners who fight a war daily! We will continue to fall to temptation and the attacks of the enemy until Jesus comes; but until he comes we will continue to pick ourselves up, brush ourselves off and strive to live better lives. We are not your example. Jesus is your only example! Follow Him!
If we had a government and a society that actually believed what we claim to be, (a Christian nation) we would realize that we do not have to stoop to crime in order to sustain ourselves. God has been merciful to this country, but we are going to continue to turn our backs on Him until we meet the same fate as those who have done so in the past!
The web shops, the numbers man, your job and the government has never been, and will never be your provider! Almighty God is the sustainer of all! Knowing that, my friend, is true freedom!! Whom the Son sets free is free indeed!
A recovering sinner who says NO!
