Students from Queen’s College and St Andrew’s have won the Bahamas Financial Services Board’s (BFSB) and Ministry of Education’s annual Essay and Speech Competition, scheduled as part of National Career Awareness Month.
The winner of the 2012 Essay Competition was Diana Ferreira, a Grade 11 student at Queen’s College, with Nathan Cates, a Grade 12 student at St. Andrew’s School, taking the Speech Competition’s top prize.
Other finalists in the Essay Competition were Letitia Ellis, Aquinas College; Matt Collins, St Andrew’s School; Alexia Collie, St Anne’s School; De’Seria Demeritte; and Tredijah Rolle, St John’s College.
Speech Competition finalists were Jermanique Evans, Aquinas College; Rashad Hepburn, C.R. Walker Senior High; Simone Whyte, Anatol Rodgers Senior High; Tremeco Higgs, Doris Johnson Senior High; Brinique Gibson, St Augustine’s College; and Randeika Foulkes, St John’s College.
Judges for both competitions were Donna Nguyen-Comito, Bahamas Financial Services Board; Veronica Duncanson, Rotary Club of Nassau Sunrise; and BFSB’s 2012 Brand Ambassadors Sharon Lafleur (Julius Baer Bank & Trust); Philippa Willie (UBS Trustees Bahamas); and Samantha Watson, Foyil Asset Management.
Bahamas Business Solutions (BBSL) donated the laptops and gift certificates for the top achievers, while KPMG and the Rotary Club of Nassau Sunrise donated the prizes for all finalists and hosted the Presentations Ceremony.
