IN A MOVE to position itself as one of the financial institutions of choice for Bahamians, the National Workers Co-operative Credit Union Limited announced the launch of two new strategies to boost savings for members.
The move, timed to coincide with the NWCCU’s 36th anniversary celebrations, is also designed to attract new members through better interest rates, CEO Alfred Poitier said.
According to Mr Poitier, the two new initiatives – ‘Save and Win’ and the ‘A-Sue Hand Account’ – “will provide strong interest to savers and also build on the nostalgia of Bahamians” who historically relied on community a-sue systems as a means of saving when access to commercial banking was limited.
Along with these savings strategies, the NWCCU, which became a registered credit union November 17, 1976, held a number of activities in honour of its anniversary.
Among the events were: an art exhibition featuring the work of Metellus Chipman at the British Colonial Hilton Hotel on November 29; a Special Call Meeting and Reception on Saturday, November 17, to discuss the possible merger of the NWCCUL with the Transport and Services Industry Co-operative Credit Union Limited; and a church service at the Bahamas Christian Fellowship Church, Carmichael Road, on Sunday, November 18.
The credit union also used the opportunity to initiate its Christmas Programme, with just under $1 million expected to be paid out to members in time for the holidays.
