CONDOLENCES

THE Bahamas Olympic Committee (BOC) and all its member sporting federations and associations give sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Thomas Augustus ‘Tommy’ Robinson.

“He was one of our most famous sporting sons and a true pioneer for the nation of the Bahamas in international sports,” said BOC president Wellington Miller.

“Tommy was an excellent role model to all young Bahamian sportsmen and women, who represented himself, his family and the Bahamian nation well over the past years, many times carrying the flag of the Bahamas alone as a sole competitor. He will be sorely missed and we shall always remember him and his contributions.”

“THERE are very few persons who have captured and influenced my well being as Thomas Augustus Robinson did,” said Athama Bowe, former commissioner of the Bahamas Baseball Association.

“From the time I set foot on John Alfred Dock, having arrived on the MV Alice Mabel from Cat Island, Tommy has been somewhere in my environment. I am definitely a far better human being for having Tommy as a mentor. He became family, role model and friend. He was a special gift to us all. That is what he was. We are blessed to have lived in his shadow and shared in his expansive desire to love.”

Bowe said Robinson is probably saying: ‘Yes, I am gone my friend. You don’t need me around anymore. You can go for yourself now.’ What a man. What a gift.”
