NORTH Abaco PLP hopeful Renardo Curry said constituents would decide ‘the right man’ in the upcoming by-election.

Some political pundits have regarded Greg Gomez, FNM hopeful, to be at a disadvantage because of heavy scrutiny over his past work experiences in the US.

But Mr Curry said he had been sure of winning in the constituency, before the ‘controversy’.

Hundreds of Abaconians are expected to show up to the polls on October 15 to vote in a new House of Assembly representative.

Mr Curry said: “I felt that I would win even before this controversy. I have been here for some time with the people of North Abaco, heard their concerns and they know I have their interests at heart.

“This is a very unfortunate situation for Mr Gomez and I am not rejoicing over it at all, but it is what it is. He is family, well my wife’s family.

“He is in public life. Being a politician is about having your integrity intact. But I can’t judge the man. I hope in the end, North Abaco decides on the right person.”

Earlier this week, the Tribune published letters which showed Mr Gomez resigned his government position as an assistant island administrator despite a claim of ‘victimisation’ by the PLP.

The letter submitted on July 5, said Mr Gomez’s last day at the facility would be July 11.

According to Gomez, the PLP overturned a decision for him to serve in a higher capacity.

He was placed at the Marsh Harbour Governmental Complex through the Ingraham administration’s 52 week programme.
