Murder victim is 90th of the year

A 36-year-old man became the country’s latest murder victim after he was shot to death early yesterday morning in Grand Bahama.

The daring daylight shooting marked the 11th murder for the nation’s second city and the 90th for the country.

According to reports, the victim, who sources identify as Basil Pierre of Brinkhill Road, was with another man washing a vehicle at his residence around 7.30am, when they were approached by two men armed with handguns.

The suspects shot both men and fled the area on foot in an unknown direction.

Mr Pierre was taken to hospital by a private vehicle but died shortly after his arrival. The other man is listed in critical condition.

Police sources say that both men were known to police and the killing is suspected of being drug related.

Anyone with information on this latest killing is asked to contact police in Grand Bahama at 350- 3107, 350-3108, 911 or 919 or the nearest police station.

Meanwhile, back in the capital police say they are still in the initial stages of investigations into the death of 27-year-old Geno Tynes.

Mr Tynes was shot and killed early Saturday morning in the area of the wash house on Buttonwood Avenue off Pinewood Gardens.

Police say a 49-year-old man is assisting them with their investigations.
