A 17-year-old boy was remanded to prison without bail yesterday after being charged in connection with the country’s 78th homicide for the year.
The Grove resident appeared in Magistrates Court before Chief Magistrate Roger Gomez.
Before the charge was read to the accused, the chief magistrate asked the juvenile if he had any relatives present.
He shook his head and answered “No sir.”
A social worker then addressed Chief Magistrate Gomez and said that she would stand in place of the boy’s mother, who could not be present because she “was about to have her baby.”
The chief magistrate then read the charge and its particulars from court dockets.
It is claimed that on Wednesday, August 15, 2012, the accused intentionally caused the death of 29-year-old Luc Antoine Dupre.
Dupre, of Finlayson Street, was gunned down in Sunlight Cottage off East Street.
According to police reports, he was approached by a man, shot several times and died on the scene.
The juvenile was not required to enter a plea to the charge due to its nature and was remanded to prison without bail until the completion of his trial.
