POLICE report that two Bahamians have taken their own lives in the span of two days.
The details surrounding the latest incident are still vague, but it is reported that a 36-year-old man, identified by neighbours as Derek Sands, shot himself in the Bain Town area yesterday.
Responding to reports of gunshots, police said they found the lifeless body of a man in a bathroom of a wooden structure on Hutchinson Street off Poinciana drive around noon on Thursday.
At the scene Supt Tommy Laroda said that although still in the initial stages of their investigation, it appears that the victim shot himself.
“It appears to be a single shot from a shot gun and seems to be self inflicted, the shot gun was also found by the side of his leg,” Supt Laroda said.
The first suspected suicide occurred early Wednesday morning. According to reports a 35-year-old woman of Union Village off Wulff Road, was found in her home at 3am on Wednesday with a sheet around her neck.
Authorities said they were notified by the victim’s relative who had made the discovery.
Police say investigations continue into both matters.
