LYNDEN Pindling International Airport was due to close its operations at 7am today, affecting nearly 7,000 passengers.
A statement released yesterday said: “Due to the anticipated effects of Hurricane Sandy, air traffic services will be suspended to and from LPIA beginning 7am on Thursday, October 25 with services tentatively scheduled to resume at 3pm on Friday, October 26.”
She said times were subject to change based on actual weather conditions as the day or days progress.
Some 6,700 passengers will be affected by today’s closure - that includes scheduled domestic and international flights.
“Passengers with itineraries to or from LPIA should contact their airline carriers directly for service updates or to make changes to existing reservations,” said the statement.
“The Nassau Airport Development company has already implemented its Hurricane Preparedness Plan. The NAD response team will be in place during the storm and will work to restore the airport to full operations in a timely manner.”
