A 19-year-old became the country’s latest murder victim when he was shot in the face as he sat in a car in front of his home.
The murder was the fifth in five days and the country’s 84th.
The incident took place around 11pm on Friday in Yellow Elder Gardens.
Police say that the victim, who sources identify as Elijah Roberts, was in a blue Ford Taurus in front of his home at Majors Road when he got into an argument with another man.
The man shot him once in the jaw with the bullet exiting at the back of his head, killing him instantly.
The gunman fled on foot.
Anyone with information on this homicide is asked to contact police at 911 or 919, the Central Detective Unit at 502 - 9991 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 328-TIPS.
The teenager’s murder came less than 24 hours after a father of seven was gunned down off Soldier Road.
The early morning shooting took place around 9.30am on Thursday.
Supt Paul Rolle, Officer in Charge of the Central Detective Unit, said police received a call around 9:45 am that shots were heard on Summer Street.
“When officers arrived on the scene they discovered the body of a man suffering from apparent gun shot wounds to his upper body. Preliminary reports showed that he was in an argument with another man that resulted in him being shot. He was lying outside an apartment building, which was still under construction,” he said.
Supt Stephen Dean said police have two men— one 22 years old, the other 24 – in custody in connection with this murder and they can be charged as early as this week.
Mr Hanna’s murder comes as police are still on the hunt for the man who killed 61-year-old Ernest Hepburn last Wednesday off Carmichael Road.
Police say Mr Hepburn was sitting outside a neighbour’s home playing dominoes when he was approached by two men.
The men robbed Mr Hepburn of his gold chain and shot him before escaping on foot into nearby bushes.
He died at the scene.
Supt Dean said police are following significant leads in the matter and are hoping to soon make an arrest.
