TWO more armed robberies were recorded over the weekend - with two teenage boys arrested in connection with one of the attacks minutes after it took place.
On Saturday, around 8.30am, a woman was robbed of cash and two cell phones after being approached by a gunman at her Bellot Road residence. The man fled the scene on a bicycle.
Minutes later, officers arrested two suspects, a 17-year-old and a 15-year-old, in the area in connection with the hold up. One of the teens had a handgun and ammunition. Both are in custody as investigations continue. Four hours earlier, two workers at a Water Depot on Marathon Road were held up and robbed by a gunman demanding cash. The gunman fled on foot and the police need the public’s help in tracking him down. The attacks happened a week after concerns were raised over a spike in armed robberies. Police reported at least 22 robberies in August. By mid-August, after eight armed robberies were reported in a single weekend, police officials admitted that robberies had become a problem, but that measures would be taken to curb them. In a separate case, a 20-year-old man was arrested over marijuana possession just after midnight on Friday after officers searched him during their patrol of the Wilson Track area and found him acting suspiciously. Officers also discovered a bag of marijuana on Saturday evening in South Beach. Around 6.45pm, police were on patrol in the Sea Link Drive area when they spotted a man acting suspiciously. The man dropped a bag on the ground and ran off. Police couldn’t catch him. The discarded bag was checked and the suspected drugs discovered. Anyone who can help the police with their inquiries should call 919 or CRIMESTOPPERS at 328-TIPS.

With all these robberies happening I must say of a funny incident that happened on the 9th, Sunday 2012. I called the Meter Cab dispatch operator requesting a cab. After being asked my location, I was further asked by the dispatch operator where I wanted to go. To my suprise, after stating the airport, I was instructed to call a cell number given by the operator to contact an individual I don't know to take me to my destination. Wtf, whats the purpose of the dispatch operator. Isn't it her job to dispatch a cab and let me know the cab number to look out for. Safety first at all times Meter Cab, before I take on such a risk I preferred that day to drive myself to the airport because the money spent for the parking lot is equal to the cab to the airport, then back home when I return.
