EDITOR, The Tribune.
The recent shock of the passing of a rising star in the FNM, the late Charles T. Maynard will linger in the minds of many for far longer than any of us can imagine. His life had many positives. He championed the cause of children and dared to be open and honest how he felt about things political. He definitely was about moving the Bahamas to much higher heights.
God, in his infinite wisdom and mercy called Charles home. Who among us can question God as to how, why or when he should do so. Who are we to even fix our mouth to fly in the face of God in the first place?
But what has reared its ugly head is the “holier than though” PLP and other warped minded Bahamians who for some strange reason believe they will not die or hypocritically have no skeletons in their closets.
My cousin has passed, but the least we could do is let his soul rest in peace. But no, there are many who cannot resist the urge to sully his name, even in death, like the cowards they are.
Bahamians could not wait to assemble around the water coolers, under the trees, in the bars, barber shops and salons to loosely discuss Charles' life. Which one of you is qualified to talk? Check yourself.
To all of the people who are still finding negative things to say about my cousin Charles T. Maynard, I say this, talk about your mother, father and your children. If you look close enough you may be surprised what you would find and that should keep you busy forever and a day.
To the many who have swept under the proverbial carpet that their pastors are molesting the youth of the church, let's talk. It is time to talk about the many pastors’ wives who silently condone her husband's behaviour, sacrificing children's lives on the altar of greed.
It is time to talk about those who have kept incest quiet in families for generations as if it a ritual. These are the things that should be openly discussed in public. No wonder we have such a strange behaviour from many of our children. We do not have the guts or the courage to say that it is because our children are carry around a burden that was literally “rammed” down their throats by the older men.
To the politicians who have destroyed the many vulnerable young ladies and men who come for jobs and are made stoop low, it is time to talk that too. I wonder if we should discuss the initiation of young politicians who dare to aspire to ascend the ladder.
To the many who subject staff to remain after work to “take dictation” so they can accelerate their promotion, I say let’s have a discussion.
I warn all to leave Charles alone because we would have much to talk about and all of the sanctimonious will be sorry if they do not.
I am not an angel, neither are you. There is none good, no not one. For all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God. For there are many skeletons that fully occupy our closets. Catch yourself, behave yourself.
Too many of us have sacrificed our children, and, yes, even sacrificed our parents. My God, do we have a conscience.
Perry Christie and Brave Davis do you have a conscience? We all want to know.
