FREEPORT – Grand Bahama police are investigating two similar armed robberies that took place in two Freeport subdivisions early Friday morning.

The first report was logged at around 4am when police were called to a home in Coral Reef Estates which had been invaded by a masked gunman.

The intruder, who was wearing dark clothing and carrying a handgun, robbed the occupants of the home of cash.

The victims were not able to get a good look at the man, but told police he was between 5’ 7” and 5’ 8” tall.

Less than an hour later, at around 4.50am, police were called to the scene of the second armed robbery in the nearby Pioneer’s Loop Subdivision.

As in the first incident, a lone gunman entered a home and robbed the occupants of cash.

The suspect was also wearing dark clothing and was described as being 5’7”to 5’8” tall and of slim build.

Police did not say if they believe the two incidents are connected.

Anyone with information that might assist the police with their investigation is asked to call 911, 919 or the Central Detective Unit office on 350-3107 or 350-3108.

Also in Freeport, Drug Enforcement Unit officers arrested a man after searching a vehicle and finding a high-powered firearm.

It was reported that at around 7pm on Thursday, DEU officers were in South Bahamia when they saw the occupants of a vehicle acting suspiciously.

The officers stopped the vehicle and conducted a search.

The officers discovered a black bag containing a black 7.62 SK assault rifle, along with one black magazine containing three rounds of ammunition.

The rifle was seized and one man taken into custody for questioning.

Police said active investigations continue.
