A 13-year-old boy is in critical condition after being stabbed multiple times over the weekend.
According to police, the boy was stabbed repeatedly about the body at around 11:30pm on Friday following an argument.
In the wake of the attack, police press officer Insp Chrislyn Skippings issued an urgent plea for people to resolve their differences without resorting to violence.
“People need to learn to resolve conflicts,” she said. “It is okay to get upset, but it’s about what you do when you get upset.
“It is all right for others to express themselves, but Bahamians – and teenagers especially – need to understand that it is not okay to pick up a weapon.
“Conflicts and disagreements are normal and part of healthy relationships. If handled in a positive and respectful way, disagreements and conflict can provide an opportunity for growth and a strong bond between people.
“Stopping and thinking before you speak or act will have positive results for all involved.”
The age of the teenager’s attacker is not known, but police believe he was an older young man.
Officers say they are following significant leads into the matter.
In a separate incident, a 30-year-old man is in hospital after being shot early Saturday morning.
Around 1:30am on Saturday police were called to St Vincent Road off the Baillou Hill Road area where gunshots were reported.
Police discovered a man lying on the side of the street suffering from multiple gun shots wounds.
The victim was taken to hospital where he is listed in stable condition, said police.
Police say the circumstances surrounding the incident are vague and are requesting the public’s assistance in locating the person or persons responsible for this latest shooting.
Members of the public with any relevant information are asked to contact police at 919 or 322-3333/4; the Central Detective Unit on 502-9991 or 502-9910; or Crime Stoppers on 328-TIPS.
In other news police have arrested a 29-year-old man of Cambridge Street off Baillou Hill Road, after he was found in possession of a handgun and ammunition.
Mobile Division officers arrested the man on Augusta Street, shortly after 11pm on Saturday, according to police reports.
To date, police said they have confiscated 375 firearms along with 5,718 rounds of ammunition.

Wish him a speedy recovery, however, 11:30pm isn't a time for a youngster to be out unless he was getting home from a family member or something.

The police are constantly talking about these teenagers resolving their issues differently, however, what alternatives do we give them. The life they live is one we have no concept of, the anger they carry we know nothing about, or we have had the opportunity to control it through proper educational facilities. If you want them to do better we all have to do better. Open up a community center providing them with free avenues to vent their anger or to discuss it through counselling. We love to talk but no one wants to do..SMT.
