POLICE are investigating yet another weekend spate of armed robberies.
Coming after six reported incidents within 48 hours last weekend, this latest round of heists has led police to renew their calls for increased awareness.
The first incident occurred at a residence on Warwick Street shortly before noon Friday, according to police crime reports.
They said a man and woman were arriving at a residence when they were approached by three armed men and robbed of jewellery and a purse containing an undisclosed amount of cash.
Police said the second incident occurred at about 1:20am Saturday in the Sir Lynden Pindling Estates area.
According to their reports, a man was arriving at his home when he was approached by four men, one of whom was allegedly armed with a handgun.
The man was robbed of his black 2002 Honda Civic, the report said.
A third incident reportedly occurred at about 11:50pm at a home on Price Street in Nassau Village.
Police say a man was returning home when two armed men robbed him of a Samsung Galaxy phone and a wallet containing an undetermined amount of cash.
“Police are investigating all matters and are once again appealing to members of the public to be aware of their surroundings and always on the alert,” the police crime report said.
Commissioner of Police Ellison Greenslade recently deplored the alarming number of armed robberies occurring in the country, saying the trend since the beginning of the year has been “very disconcerting”.
“It’s very disconcerting the number of armed robberies that we’ve been having over time, since the start of the year,” Mr. Greenslade said. “Actually, we’ve seen the same thing, last year, and I’ve commented before, as I comment again, now – far too many armed robberies are occurring.
“Far too many unemployed, young adults – predominantly males – in this community are prepared to rob people for their hard earned property and they, themselves are not prepared to work. We have deployed officers to continue to seek these people out. We’ve had some successes.”
This weekend police also arrested a 29-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman for possession of an unlicensed shotgun, and two males, 22 and 19, for possession of a handgun and ammunition, they said.
Officers of the Mobile Division arrested three men in Gambier Village Saturday who were found in possession of a quantity of what was suspected to be marijuana.
