POLICE are working to find out who smashed the windows of more than a dozen parked cars in southwest New Providence over the weekend.
The officer in charge of the Southwestern Division, Superintendent Allen Emmanuel, said because of the number of cars damaged in several different areas, police believe more than one person was involved.
According to reports, almost a dozen parked cars were damaged with a hard object or had rocks thrown through the windows.
The incidents reportedly occurred between 2am and 4.30am in the Flamingo Gardens, St Vincent Road and Fairview Heights areas.
This is the second incident of vehicle vandalism reported by police in recent weeks.
Earlier this month, drivers in the Shirley Street area were warned to be alert after at least half a dozen cars had blocks thrown into their windshields between Friday night and early Saturday morning while driving on Shirley Street between Harbour Bay and Kemp Road. The attacks all took place between 1am and 5am. No one was seriously hurt, however several of the victims were shaken up, police said.
According to reports, the bricks were thrown into the driver’s side of the windshields in an attempt to stop the vehicle.
Similarly, in this latest incident, bricks were thrown through car windshields, however Supt Emmanuel said police are not sure if the incidents are related.
“I remember the other incident but we are still investigating to see if there is a connection. Someone used some instrument to break the glass on the vehicles. It was not just isolated to Carmichael, it was all over the Southwestern area, but we do believe the incidents are related. We feel like it is a group of people,” he said.
“We have people all over Nassau doing foolishness. There is no real need for the public to be alarmed, we believe it was an isolated incident. Someone just lost their mind, decided to do garbage for no reason. They didn’t steal anything, they just smashed the windows. It makes no sense.”
Police are investigating and appealing to members of the public who may have any information regarding this incident to contact the Southwestern Division on 361-0480/1.
