ELIZABETH MP Ryan Pinder partnered with BAARK (Bahamas Alliance for Animal Rights and Kindness) to launch ‘Operation Potcake in Elizabeth’ on Saturday.
A walkabout was held so BAARK representatives could present information about animal welfare to area residents.
BAARK collected seven dogs for sterilisation and gave out eight vouchers for residents to use when they want to transport their pets to a clinic for the operation.
The ongoing initiative is the fourth effort launched in six months under the umbrella of the Elizabeth Community Enhancement Programme.
Mr Pinder has also launched the Malcolm Creek Restoration Project, crime prevention community clean-ups and the Parks of Elizabeth Enhancement Project.
The MP said the aim is to address the concerns of constituents and focus on “enhancing the neighbourhood, building our community and adding value to Elizabeth”.
He said: “The constituents reported that the stray animals in the area were a major concern because they were devaluing the community and unsafe for the residents, especially the children. This initiative promises to address these concerns and make Elizabeth a safer and more pleasant living environment.”
During the walkabout, residents expressed their gratitude and applauded Mr Pinder and the BAARK team.
